We’re a couple of months into the AccountRight Live Pilot Program – time enough to get a good idea of how AccountRight Live is working in Australian and New Zealand businesses.

And the feedback we’ve received so far? It’s been really positive. The more our pilot participants use AccountRight Live, the more they enjoy the experience – and importantly, the more they recognise the possibilities that working in the cloud can bring. Here’s what some of our participants have been saying:

Quotes from our surveys

“The ease of using the program and the […] convenience of being live will save everyone involved time and money not having to visit site. The use for Bookkeeping practices will far exceed the current. Love it!”

“Have so far no problems with the system and love the idea of being able to access at a different computer e.g. laptop.”

Love it!”

“Have so far no problems with the system and love the idea of being able to access at a different computer e.g. laptop.”

“This version of MYOB seems to be quicker than previous versions. There are fewer errors. The reports are not timing out and I like the fact that the file is held externally and I do not need to move file from folders to access it when I am on the go.”

“Has a similar feel to previous versions of MYOB so am getting to grips with it quickly but there are a few data entry niggles that need sorting to make it quick & easy to load data. Love the fact that I can be at work or at home & still work on the data!”

“This version is a much faster and smoother program than the pc standalone program. It is exactly the system I have been searching for. I have been using MYOB for over 16 years now and this is the one. Congratulations on a job well done. Once the minor bugs have been sorted, it will be even better, and your support guys are terrific. Thank you.”

How does MYOB use pilot feedback?

Every single piece of feedback we receive from our pilot participants – whether good, bad, or indifferent – is considered, collated, compared, and put to good use. How? Here’s a quick rundown:

Product Development: This is an obvious one. Information we receive about performance and design is collected and discussed weekly (if not daily). While only some of the information is acted on immediately, all of it is catalogued for future reference and action. Many of the ideas and proposed changes are already known; while some are brand new to us. These new ones are sent to both internal and external workgroups, who then make recommendations on what needs to be worked on next.

Public Relations: The PR team keeps a close eye on what people are saying, and feed information back to the executive team. That way senior MYOB management has a snapshot of how our customers are viewing our progress; not just information from our internal teams. PR also takes a snapshot of pilot participant sentiment, to inform press releases and media stories.

Marketing: This is a big one – almost as important as product development. The marketing team’s decisions on how to position AccountRight Live come from a number of sources; however the main two are from quantitative and qualitative research, and from – you guessed it – pilot feedback. Survey responses and forum discussion play a big part in helping the marketing team shape what, where, and how we position, advertise, and describe AccountRight Live.

Technical Support: The tech support team keeps a close eye on survey feedback, as it provides first-person information on any issues with AccountRight Live. Logically, if participants are having problems, other people may experience the same problems. And if they are issues that are inherent with the service, tech support needs to work on ways to make the service work as simply and efficiently as possible.

There are plenty of other divisions and departments that use the feedback: the accountants division, the partner team, our online team… it’s safe to say that if you’re on the AccountRight Live Pilot or thinking about joining it, your information is valuable and important to us!

Fun facts

Which hour in the day has the highest usage of AccountRight Live? 10am

Which days have the highest AccountRight Live usage? Friday

Which transaction type sees the highest volume? Sales

Would you like to join the AccountRight Live Pilot? Register your interest today at myob.com.au/arpilot (Australian users) or myob.co.nz/arpilot (New Zealand users).

Please note – the pilot is not suitable for Premier, Enterprise, AccountEdge, or M-Powered Services users.

A lot of businesses settle for just having an online presence. But it’s not enough to simply be in the race. A recent study at Carleton University in Ottawa revealed that users take less than 50 milliseconds to form an opinion about your website. ‘Their first impressions give way to a ‘halo effect’, so if they think the site looks good, they transfer that assessment to its functionality… we have only milliseconds to persuade customers that sites are trustworthy, efficient, and can do what we want them to do.’

Here’s a checklist of some quick and easy tips to really get your website moving.

Looks matter! A beautiful website with a coordinated colour palette goes a long way. It sounds harsh, but people do judge a book by its cover. Make sure your cover looks professional. You can do this quickly by using a coordinated colour palette and high-quality pictures. These are the first things a user will notice and will instantly add a level of professionalism to your website that text just cannot do.

Short and sweet. A user shouldn’t have to think to find what they are looking for. No need to use fancy language. Use short, easy-to-understand navigation terms, so they can quickly find what they’re after.

What’s new? When you visit a website and they haven’t updated their news since March 2011, you start thinking that business isn’t really on top of things. Keep your news up to date and use images where possible – news articles with images are 90% more likely to get viewed than articles without images.

Are you well liked? People like reassurance they’re doing the right thing. Would you select a restaurant that 5 people liked or that 100 people liked? So encourage everybody you know to like your website on their social networking sites.

Are you trustworthy? People use your business name, domain name, and your email address to evaluate the legitimacy of your business. Which of these email addresses would you trust more – sweetas123@gmail.com or bob@bobsconstruction.com.au?

Is it easy for me to give you my money? When a consumer is ready to pay, it shouldn’t be hard work for them to give you money. They want an obvious and easy way to complete their transaction. Given that the three most popular uses of the interest for business owners was paying bills on suppliers’ websites, buying products and services online, and using internet engines to promote their business, you really want to get this step right.

What do you do? As previously mentioned, you have 50 milliseconds to tell people what you do. Write your website headline and positioning statement as if you had only 5 seconds to say it.

A website is a powerful business tool. Last year, those with a business website were 53% more likely to experience a revenue increase – 23% saw their revenue rise versus 15% of those without one. They also said positive business changes were more likely a result of having a website than using other promotional media, or a result of utilising both. More than one third (37%) of SMEs with a business website reported it increased customer leads and 34% said it improved their customer interaction. 33% said they enjoyed better conversion of leads to sales, 32% grew their revenue/income as a result, and 30% said it enabled them to compete more effectively. It’s all about how you use your website.

Do all these things for free with MYOB Atlas.

2. In Payslip email setup, type in the text you would like to appear in the email when you send the payslip.

Please note the default text provided includes merge fields. This means these fields will prefill automatically with details you have already entered. For example [Employee name] will prefill with the employee’s name e.g. To Mary Jones, thereby personalising the email sent.

3. Then click ‘Save’ to store your changes.

4. Next, go to Payroll > Employees

5. Add the required email address to each of your employees.
Next time you do a payrun you will now have the option to tick the Email box. LiveAccounts will automatically email the payslips when you finalise the payrun.

Emailing and printing past payslips

You can also email or print individual payslips from past pay runs.

1.Go to Payroll > Past pay runs

2. Select the required past payrun and click on ‘Print/Email’. This will outline all the employees in that particular pay run.

3. Tick the box of the employee(s) you would like to email a payslip to, or print payslip for. The ‘Print’ and ‘Email’ buttons will become active.

Please note: If the email button does not become active at the bottom of the screen, this means you haven’t entered an email address for that employee. You can add their email address via Payroll > Employees.

4. Click on ‘Email’ and off it goes! Click on ‘Print’ and the payslip PDF will open, and you can print it from there.
