Why changing your mind can be a good idea

    Written by

Where do you get inspiration from? Over the course of running my Grateful in April campaign, I’ve been inspired (and humbled) daily by the thoughts, expressions and honesty of the people taking part. People are unbelievably grateful for everyday things that most of us take for granted. How often are you thankful for the legs and feet that carry you around? For being able to access clean drinking water and fresh food? Being able to operate your business in a country that enforces transparency? For your own health and wellbeing – and that of your family and friends?

    Why I’m Grateful in April

    Written by

Last year, after being overwhelmed by global happenings, I made a decision - what if I decided to change that? What impact might that have on my life? In order to find out, I created Grateful in April, a m.a.d.woman initiative to get people focused on what’s already good in their lives. Grateful in April is a global campaign to get people focused on feeling good about what they’ve already got in their lives. It’s amazing what can occur when you find ways to be grateful for what you have. By noticing and acknowledging all the great things that currently occur in your life, you will focus on creating more of the same. Seeing the good around will allow you to look at situations and people in a different light and experience them more positively.

    Written by

Turns out spreading yourself too thin can actually cause you to become, well, the opposite of thin... I recently discovered a horrifying side effect of being extremely busy. Like many business owners, I was spending long days in front of the computer, lots of time on the phone and many hours frantically driving from meeting to meeting. The result? While I got a lot done, my waistline suffered the side effects! It’s easy to see how - too much time sitting, grabbing unhealthy snacks on the run because I was too busy to plan to feed myself properly and not enough exercise all contributed to stacking on some unwanted kilos.

    Overcoming blogger’s block

    Written by

How do you come up with something new to write about frequently enough to build a successful blog? As blogs become more common, so too does the problem of blogger’s block: that awkward moment when you feel as though you’ve run out of things to say. Coming up with enough material to write a weekly post is a big challenge for many people – so unless you have a background or passion for writing, be careful about the frequency you commit to.

Do you believe knowledge is power?

Accounting practices need marketing just as much as anyone else. Marketing isn’t, as many people imagine, just about advertising and trying to help the sales team make a sale. And yes it may eventually come to that, but marketing in the truest form, the very foundation of it, lies with the customer. It is understanding what your customer’s points of pain are, what they need (not necessarily “want” in the words of Steve Jobs) and then creating a solution. It doesn’t end there. You need to ensure that the solution is delivered in the right way, the easiest way for your customer to access – deliver the optimum customer experience. You also need to consider how what you are offering is going to differ from what everyone else in the market offers. What is going to make you unique? Why should they buy ‘it’ (whatever ‘it’ is) from you? There are then decisions on how to price the product, where to distribute it and only then do you start the work of promoting it.
