Happy Friday! Again. I’m constantly hearing people say that they can’t believe that it’s Friday again, and that another week is down. With the weeks flying past so quickly it can be difficult to fit everything in – and it’s not uncommon for that to-do list to not always get completed. But what happens when something slips through the cracks? Regular The Pulse contributor, Melina Schamroth, shares her reflection on her work flow processes, and whether they are the most effective to ensure that nothing important is forgotten. Perhaps a great chance to review your own?

Apple will refund any customer who purchased the new iPad believing it could connect to the Australian 4G network, after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) filed an application with the Federal Court claiming the world’s most valuable company was misleading consumers. Happy Friday! A taste of what’s to come ahead has officially blown into Australia’s South Eastern states today, with Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra and Melbourne all experiencing a rather unseasonable cold snap…signalling that it’s time to farewell those thongs and singlets and start thinking about boots and scarves!
While the change in weather might not be so positive, the latest from our Federal Government is a great step in the right direction for Australian SME’s. MYOB CEO, Tim Reed shares his thoughts on why this is a positive move for all business owners.

It’s been a year since we launched our ‘Getting Aussie Business Online‘ initiative with Google, with a goal of helping small businesses (SMB’s) make the most of getting online. Read more

The LiveAccounts websites found at liveaccounts.myob.com.au and liveaccounts.myob.co.nz are being retired, with all the content moving into the main myob.com.au and myob.co.nz websites. We’re doing this to consolidate all the information about our products and services into one location, making it easier to find.
To assist in this transition, we’ll be redirecting key locations on the old websites. That means if you try to visit liveaccounts.myob.com.au, you’ll automatically be taken to its new home, myob.com.au/liveaccounts. As a bit of housekeeping if you have bookmarked any of these old locations, you might like to update them with the new location. Read more
Is your business being stalked?
They say imitation is the sincerest flattery form.
Yet its effect on the source (you) can range from mildly inspiring to downright maddening.
Let’s table some shades, to colour this copycat world.

Ever had your car, house or store broken into?
I’ve recently had the online equivalent. I’ve had someone break into my website causing my email to be disabled and disrupting things for a couple of days and I’m finding myself hacked off by hackers.
And for what end? A cheap thrill? A test run of hacking prowess? Something more sinister? Read more

Life at the pointy end.
Hearing a rising howl about Pinterest, my first thought was, ‘Not another bloody social media fad!’
My second thought was, ‘I ignored Twitter for months, only to find it’s one of the most useful things ever.’
Then, when someone claimed Pinterest generates more leads than Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn COMBINED, I had to take a look.
What is it?
Pinterest is an electronic version of the scrapbook you may have kept as a kid.
‘Pinning’ (scrapbooking) is actually quite calming and … fun. Read more

There’s a bit of an ‘in’ joke going around the more nerdier circles of online marketing lately that the only ones using Google Plus – Google’s new(ish) social platform – are Google employees and businesses who have no idea what to do with it.
This is an exaggeration, of course, and to dismiss it as a platform which nobody is using would be folly. After all, just a few days ago Google Plus hit the 100 million users mark.
The statement mainly highlights three facts:
- Google Plus definitely hasn’t got the user numbers of Facebook
- It hasn’t become the giant killer most predicted it was trying to be (We’ve discussed the Google Plus vs Facebook question here)
- People signed up purely because it was the new kid on the block. Read more

Happy Super Bowl Monday! (or Sunday, if you’re in the US)
Much like the AFL Grand Final in Australia and the Rugby World Cup Final in New Zealand, the match that stops a nation is currently playing out in lounge rooms and bars across North America.
Last year, a global audience of 111 million people tuned in to watch the Green Bay Packers storm home over the Pittsburgh Steelers, with an estimated 10% of those watching from outside of the US. (and the preliminary figures for this year indicate that we might be on track to reach the 120 million mark.)

Regular readers will remember Easy Weddings.com.au, winners of both the MYOB Small Business Award and the Victorian Business of the Year Award at last year’s Telstra Business Awards, when they shared some secrets behind their success right here on The Pulse.
Katrina and Matt Butterworth built the site nearly a decade ago in their lounge room, after personal experience planning their own wedding revealed a massive gap in the market for an easy to use, planning resource. Undeterred by the lack of a technology background, they launched Easy Weddings, with Matt teaching himself web design and heading back to school to study HTML and programming. Read more

Most savvy business owners are well aware of the way the technological world is changing, and the impact that it’s having on the way we do business. In less than 7 years, Facebook went from a college start-up to a global phenomenon of more than 800 million people, and Apple managed to get over 25 million iPads into the market in less than 13 months. We’re more connected, in more mobile and social ways than ever before. Read more
